City Palace in Udaipur - City Palace is often referred to as the most-visited tourist attraction in Udaipur. Built by Maharana Udai Singh, City Palace in Udaipur, situated on the picturesque Lake Pichola, is the largest royal complex in Rajasthan.

Consisting of 11 magnificent palaces, resembling each other despite being built by different rulers, the City Palace of Udaipur is the most imposing structure in the city.

Udaipur City Palace has many huge gates. The Hathi Pol or the Elephant Gate provides entry into the palace. The Bari Pol or Big Gate takes you to the Tripolia or Triple Gate. All this goes on to show the importance attached to vigilance by the erstwhile rulers.

It is said that the Maharajas weighed themselves in gold and silver at the Tripolia and then distributed that share amongst the public.

Numerous balconies, towers and domes adorn the premises of the palace. The towers of Udaipur City Palace provide breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding areas. The balcony of the sun, known as Suraj Gokhada was the place from where the Maharaja addressed his people.

The Peacock Square or Mor Chowk is the most splendid section of City Palace of Udaipur. Designed in the shape of a peacock, the blue mosaic glasses on the walls look spectacular.

All rooms of the City Palace of Udaipur have a distinct charm of their own. The Manak Mahal and Moti Mahal have rare collections of glass and mirror work. Chini Mahal has amazing ornamental ties. Krishna Vilas is the ideal place for art lovers, housing a rich assortment of paintings. The Zenana Mahal was the chamber for ladies and the Bari Mahal was the central garden providing amazing views of the city.
