Jaisalmer Havelis in India

Most havelis in Jaisalmer were built by wealthy merchants who inhabited the region for a long time. Most of these are built of sandstone and have retained their charm even after these many centuries.

There are quite a few havelis in Jaisalmer that adorn the lanes of the city. A tour of Jaisalmer havelis is a must if you wish to explore the architectural brilliance of these mansions.

Salim Singh Haveli is a structure straight out of the fables. More than three centuries old, this Havelis of Jaisalmer India belonged to Maharaja Rawal Salim Singh. Built of yellow stone, the mansion is carved with intricate artwork and has a projecting balcony on the top storey.

The Nathmal Haveli also deserves a mention as one of the most famous Jaisalmer havelis. Built in 1885 and owned by Nathwal, an erstwhile prime minister of Jaisalmer, this haveli was gifted to a Rawal later on.

The unique feature of the Havelis of Jaisalmer India is the fact that it has two absolutely identical portions united by a common façade. This haveli in Jaisalmer is known to have surpassed all the others in terms of craftsmanship.

Ghuman Chand Patwa built the Patwon ki Haveli with his five sons. These gold and silver traders had their business spread all over the neighboring countries. The haveli has five lavish suites, built between 1800 and 1860.

The chiseled balconies and beautifully carved walls have made this Havelis of Jaisalmer India the grandest in the city.
