It is said that the delay in the transfer of the pieces from Europe due to First World War caused in its late opening.

Built in 1894, Vadodara Baroda Museum and Art Gallery is designed on the architectural patterns of Victoria & Albert and Science Museums of London. This museum was designed by Major Mant in association with R.F. Chisholm. It is held that R.F. Chisholm refined some of Mant's finest works to create authentic Indo-Sarcenic architecture.
